Browns Point Radio & Meeker Middle School Mock Election 2008 will be joining millions of students nationwide one week prior to the General Election. Students will participate and learn in many different ways.
Meeker students will be voting on many of the same candidates and issues as their parents, the week prior to the General Election. 6th grade students will be voting on October 29th, 7th grade students will vote October 28th, and 8th grade students vote on October 30th.
All voting will take place at Meeker and votes from the Meeker Mock Election will be added to the votes from millions of other students nationwide. Results will be posted here after the election.
The Mock Election is about education as students will be learning about our government and democratic process in the classroom. Plus, students will have the opportunity to write and produce their own public service announcements encouraging everyone to "Get Out And Vote!"
Browns Point Radio will be broadcasting those public service announcements every hour, leading up to Election Day on Tuesday, November 4th.
The Student Mock Election seeks to turn the sense of powerlessness that keeps young Americans and their parents from going to the polls into a sense of the power of participation in our democracy.
Browns Point Radio is proud to support our community and our democracy by engaging students and their families in the election process. Hopefully, this project will lead to family discussion and the students might even teach their parents a thing or two.
The 2008 Mock Election is non-partisan, and the program is supported and sponsored nationally by the NAB (National Association Of Broadcasters) American Federation Of Teachers, The National Education Association, League Of Women Voters, Kiwanis, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Campfire, and a long list of others ......find out more
